MDMA-Safer Use Practices

What is MDMA?

MDMA, also known as “Molly” or “Ecstasy,” is a psychoactive substance known for its stimulant and empathogenic effects. While it can enhance experiences, it also carries risks that can be minimized with proper harm reduction practices.

Safer Use Practices

1. Test Your Substances

Always test your MDMA for purity using a reagent test kit. These kits can detect adulterants that may pose additional risks.

2. Start Low, Go Slow

Dosage matters. Start with a lower dose (50-75 mg) and wait 1-2 hours before considering additional amounts. Overdosing can increase the risk of overheating, dehydration, and adverse reactions.

3. Stay Hydrated, But Not Overhydrated

Drink small sips of water (250 ml/hour) if dancing or in hot environments. Avoid drinking excessive amounts, which can lead to hyponatremia (low sodium levels).

4. Take Breaks to Cool Down

MDMA can increase your body temperature. Rest in cool environments and avoid prolonged physical exertion.

5. Avoid Mixing Substances

Using MDMA with alcohol, other stimulants, or depressants increases the risk of adverse effects.

6. Space Out Use

Frequent use of MDMA can lead to serotonin depletion, tolerance, and neurotoxicity. Wait at least 4-6 weeks between uses to allow your brain to recover.

Why Harm Reduction Matters

MDMA use carries risks, but informed decisions and safer practices can significantly reduce those risks. By testing your substances, using moderation, and staying mindful of your environment, you can have a safer experience.
